Reality check for diesel-systemed truck camper

What is your estimated battery/Ah increase to accommodate the draw of the induction unit you've selected?

LR3 check Engine light on again.

Did you reset the computer after you replaced the K&N? Those filters allow much more airflow than the paper ones and that can mess up the air-fuel mix -- computers can't deal with that drastic change. Good luck.

so basically... 3/4 ton/1 ton heavier camper

You have probably already thought this through, but seems to me a class C motorhome might be a better choice if you'll be full-timing and intend to leave the camper on the truck 24/7 for an undetermined amount of time. Truck campers, as great as they are, are pretty much designed using...

Beating a dead horse, but.... Hiking boots?

I'm a big guy. Usually, I weigh in between 230 and 245, depending on how much time I spend on the bike. The Hoka Tor mid is the worst "boot" I've ever owned in my life. Both my wife and I experienced severe blistering in the same location due to material choice and seam placement. We have quite...

Beating a dead horse, but.... Hiking boots?

Nice to hear that you found a method that works for you, but this sounds like terrible advice. Get your foot measured at a reputable retailer and find a pair of boots that fit your feet and your purpose the very best. Do not sacrifice fit for the shoes that happen to be on sale. Do not insist...

    Subaru shopping questions

Just find a good condition 2.5L that has been well cared for. Make sure the timing belt & water pump was done around 110k miles, and bonus points if the head gasket was replaced. It will love you long time. My mechanic told me that 6cyl and turbo models are not recommended as a high-mileage...

They do squirm a bit for the first 1000 miles or so. Reliable in all road conditions. I've...

Beating a dead horse, but.... Hiking boots?

La Sportiva makes some fantastic products. I don't know if I would describe it as cushy, but I have really been enjoying the Synthesis mid gtx. They seem to bridge the gap well between boot-like support and the lightweight flexibility of a trail runner.

    Ford or Ram?

No surprise Ford is firm on the 2017 models. Next year, when the new Rams are released, there won't be a single one under MSRP and the Ford will be 15% below invoice.

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, it looks closer in the picture than it does in person. Right now it has a set of 2x8's that run the length of the bed. It probably wouldn't hurt to add some ply to that. I don't expect to travel anything much more rough than forest service roads with this rig.

We took our new/used 8.5' Alaskan to the San Juans last week. It was enjoyable. I was debating installing airbags but the truck handles the camper well with only minimal sag. I'm not sure what, if any, improvements would be worth the cost and complexity.

Anyone put BF Goodrich KO2s on their late model Forester? If so, please comment.

I said it before, but these tires were magic on my 2010 Outback. I got 60,000 miles with regular rotations. If it had been a 5MT instead of the worthless 4OD, I'd probably still own that car.

    A Hawk in the Arctic

The drying effect of a wood stove is a result of the constant mixing with cold, presumably dry if winter, outside air. The rate at which this mixing occurs is the real difference between a normal furnace and wood.
