Wow, that is intense. I am not sure I could get the nerve to cut into my frame. Impressive.

Checking out a 1017a soon what should I look for

Do you have any photos? I would be concerned about cab rust. Very difficult/expensive to remedy. I don't know specifically about 1017A, but for the Unimog it is floorboards, door sills, and the bottom of the windshield. Victorian is correct - I think at that age you should assume you will...

    Going to be Unimoged

Totally get it. I have no first hand experience or knowledge. Just curious why they would take such a risk. Money is great and all but killing your customers is pretty bad for business and reputation.

    Going to be Unimoged

Is it really though? I get the concept but it seems in practice many people do it without issue. Including very knowledgeable outfitters like Atlas4x4 and Unicat.

A small town in the US?

    Unimog demand

I recently drove about 4500 miles on those interstates and my Mog will not go any faster than 52 mph. It does take at least 33% longer to get anywhere so you have to plan for more time. We had one person give us the bird and one person brake check us, but other than that there were no issues...

    Plumbing question- water filter placement

I don’t know for positive but I feel like the filter would be too slow if you put it before your tank. but I have seen people put filters on the end of the hose as you fill the tank. So I guess it probably depends on the filter or filters.

MB truck owners in North America - is it worth it?

Sorry, maybe I didn't use the right words. By affinity, I meant an emotional attachment beyond practicality. Cool factor.

MB truck owners in North America - is it worth it?

I would think if you are staying in NA and you have no particular affinity for the old MB trucks, then getting the domestic truck would be the way to go. Put your time and energy into a nice Total Composites habitat instead of a classic car restoration 😉.

Vinyl flooring and Chinese diesel heaters

Sorry, no experience with the floor. I do have a diesel heater and I can't see how you could avoid diesel smell if the tank is inside. Even if you could bulletproof the piping/tank somehow, you would have to fill it at some point which is always less than perfect.

1990s MB truck owners. Looking for some details!!

Mine is a Unimog which you specifically do not want but, in my limited ownership experience of a vintage MB firetruck in the US, my opinion would be that if you are all about practicality, then this is not the way to go. I would only do it if you are interested in and including an (maybe large)...
