BARBIE the 2nd gen 12v crew cab conversion

It now has paint Just a quick update on the 12v. Paint was a long time coming and it was a bear. 11 months ago I began stripping bedliner off in prep for paint. It has taken this long to finally get it done. In that 11 months I moved from Wyoming to Colorado. Bought a house, with enough...

BARBIE the 2nd gen 12v crew cab conversion

The truck is sans bed currently. I can't believe the amount of cracking in the bed I found once I tore into it. I've put a lot of time welding into the bed. I should have just bought a new bed. This week the truck got a new starter and water pump. Also fixed the coolant temp gauge and got my 1st...

BARBIE the 2nd gen 12v crew cab conversion

What's in a name? Barbie started life as a regular cab but she wanted some serious attention and went under the knife for a heavy augmentation:Wow1: But I'm getting ahead of myself: I started on expedition portal as a natural extension of my 80 series infatuation. If you spend enough time on...

    Family overland vehicle suggestions?

I love my dodge cummins. In the right configuration you could get 16+ mpg pulling those trailers, with no gear hunting on the hills. That boosted straight six does it all. Solid front axle to boot.

Toyota Tundra next in line for Cummins V8 diesel?

I would buy it in a heartbeat. Sounds like Nissan is doing the v8 cummins. If Toyota drags their feet I might find myself in a Titan. I'm liking the current options. I have been seeing a number of oilfield workers here in Wyoming switch from their diesel 3/4 tons back to gasser half tons...

Ram 1500 to get EcoDiesel V6!

I am in the very interested category for this new powertrain. Living in a state that does not do emissions testing, I can do the appropriate deletes and get 30+ mpg out of a 4wd 4dr dodge. That 8 speed transmission will do a lot for economy too. I am hopeful in seeing some real world #'s and...

Thoughts on purchasing a formerly leased 100-series?

My 98 started out life as a lease vehicle according to the carfax. It now has 180k and runs great. Maintenance is key.

Need an 80 series front bench seat!

I am in a similar situation. 4 kids and I would prefer not to use the 3rd row. I will have to look into some full size trucks that have 3 belts in the front bench. It may be ugly but the extra room it would free up is substantial. Not to mention my leather is torn on the front row anyway (like...

    Ultimate Knife/Multi-Tool Thread

I also carry a super tool 300 everyday. Immediately chucked the factory nylon sheath and bought a leather double stack mag holder from Ringler leather in Powell Wy. Perfect. They do make a nice leather sheath specifically for the ST300 but it was tight and I liked the faster access of the open top.

80 series rear driveshaft losing grease

This write up on IH8mud addresses this same topic. Overgreasing can lead to a hydrolocked state. Idahodoug explains it well on the 2nd page. http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/119512-neglecting-driveline-grease.html

Indeed, the 12v cummins excursion is the ultimate SUV, until then I hold onto my 80 series.

Any Ex-Jeep Guys Miss Their Jeep?

I've owned 2 cherokee's. I miss the available manual transmission. I wish my 80 had a stick. The 4.0L I6 was a respectable motor, good pep and the only thing I ever had to do was a water pump. The build quality between the two vehicle's is night and day and I would have to say that I would not...

What vehicle for a family of 6? Small kids

We just had our 4th child this week. We love our 80 series. Brute tough offroad, amazing in the snow and all terrains encountered. Sometimes I desire a pickup bed but can't stand the thought of losing my cruiser. For now we keep using our roof rack with a kirkhams bag.

    Schattenjager's 1997 LX450

I take it you didn't want to wait for the 93 to come down in price...too bad the 93's are my favorite. Big bus tranny and all. Your lexus is unique and probably a better deal, it looks great and unmodified which is a perk in some ways. congrats.

    12v Build thread, round 2....

53 block--bad luck. The 12 valve is a better motor anyway, IMO. Cheap easy power. Look at all the sled pullers using the p7100 pump. Awesome truck, I miss my 94 Reg cab NV 4500. Truck ran perfect when sold at a young 274,xxx miles.

Quick question about the FZJ80 and 6bt

6BT P7100 pump and the nv 4500. Don't look back, just build it. The p7100 pump 12 valve is still the best diesel on the market, just take note to what all the sled pullers are using for a foundation. From all the reading on mud it seems about 4" will put you right. Good luck.
