Anyone actually install mini split heat pump on camper?

One of the big advantages of mini split systems is that they generally are "soft start" and infinitely variable speed compressor, which makes them ideal for solar power. The soft start doesn't surge allowing it to be powered from smaller inverters or smaller generators. A single 2000w "suitcase...

Cabinet Materials and hardware et al for offroad camper

Baltic birch is great if you can handle the weight. A cheaper alternative that you can often find is lauan with a structual 3ply in 1/4 inch for cheap. By structural I mean 3 equal thickness plys just like you would get with birch but for about half the price. You can also get crap lauan so...

    Generator or APU?

I just learned about thermokings tripac apu. It is quite a bit different concept then the carrier brand I mentioned above. It uses a diesel espar d2 or d4 for heat. It has a belt driven a/c compressor for air conditioning, and an alternator to charge the batteries. It is not a generator so...

What is the BEST....High Altitude Solution for Heating?

Sounds neat using a needle valve to bleed fuel. Problem is you won't really know you screwed up till you fowl out the burner, at least that is what would happen to me. Why not use just one thermo top and a water to water exchanger like you mentioned, and some water to air radiators. Shouldn't...

    Generator or APU?

I work on a fleet of Carrier brand APUs. I was told the model we have runs about $10k (might be a wholesale price). The apu includes A/C, and electric heat. Ours is a 3500watt generator and has a separate alternator which pushes up to 50amps continuous to the battery (measured with an amp...

Adhesives!! need some help Sikaflex vs 3M vs???

Normally with these adhesives you are supposed to use 1/8" spacers to prevent the caulk from spreading to thin. The thickness of the bead is what gives it its flexibility. And no I never really came to a decision lol.

Adhesives!! need some help Sikaflex vs 3M vs???

Maybe I did jump the gun on ruling out these adhesives I keep see sawing back and forth. I can tell you for 3m 5200. They don't seem to consider a primer necessary when bonding fiberglass, but it is necessary for metals. I guess even aluminum and stainless have enough corrosion to be an...

    Pink Panther Build

How I ended up with a Dodge farm truck As a winter vehicle diesel heat really makes more sense then propane. With this in mind I set out looking for a diesel truck. I have always been a fan of imports, unfortunately the only diesel option in 4wd is the mitsubishi FG 4x4. I like the cabover...

    Pink Panther Build

Okay Sikaflex polyurethane type adhesives mentioned above in my 3rd assembly method are out. I did some more research and I don't like the idea of giving my camper a hard set life span as these sealants are only good up to 20 years. I would like to be optimistic and that it will still be...

Adhesives!! need some help Sikaflex vs 3M vs???

Thanks for all the help. I think I have made up my mind. I will not glue my camper together with urethane adhesives. My main interest was in its flexible nature. The problem is it will stiffen up over time and need repair in 20 years or less. While there have been numerous composite...

Adhesives!! need some help Sikaflex vs 3M vs???

Alright so after extensive research it sounds like polyurethane adhesives last about 20 years before failure. Sounds like they progressively harden over time. I take it you can't buy 3m 5200 in caulk tubes at the local chain store like homedepot anymore? That is a thing of the past?

Adhesives!! need some help Sikaflex vs 3M vs???

So you would use it to seal a hole on the boat below water line and consider it a permanent repair? How long would you expect it to last?

Adhesives!! need some help Sikaflex vs 3M vs???

I am fine with opinions as long as the person with the opinion also explains it. For example (I am making this up completely) I like sikaflex 552 because it is easier to work with then 252, you can keep an open tube for a month and it won't dry out. Don't worry about it dry rotting you can see...
