Project Outrider

So I have spent a ton of time lurking on the forum, but figured it is about time to start a build thread for my Jeep. I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0. Currently running 235/75r15 Duratracs with great success.

Plans for a new front bumper and some lighting are in the works, still need to take pictures of my rear storage setup. Also need to fix the small coolant leak and replace the exhaust manifold. Currently looking into dual batteries as I plan on getting a winch, fridge and additional lighting in the future.

Oh, and a big thank you to this community for some great ideas and input.

Will be updating this thread as the build progresses as time and budget allows.

The paint job is actually a funny story. Over the years of owning this, the paint had peeled in places, and some surface rust had developed in some of my dents and dings. In order to prevent additional corrosion, I cleaned up the rust, and sprayed it with some primer, which left me with a green jeep with black spots. At the time of doing that, I didn't have the funds to get it repainted but I did have some cans of krylon, so I went ahead and sprayed it so it didn't look like a green spotted cow. Ultimately, I want to go olive drab monstaliner on it, but that will have to wait until next summer.

As far as the name, I am guilty of being a horrible Star Wars geek. There is a character that named Dash Rendar who has a smuggling ship called the Outrider and the name has always stuck with me. (An outrider is also defined as a person in a motor vehicle or on horseback who goes in front of or beside a vehicle as an escort or guard; A guide; One that goes in advance; a forerunner.) I thought it was a fitting name for my project, so that is what I call it.

At the end of the day it is all about personal choice, and while camo isn't my first choice, it worked out pretty well, and has protected my Jeep from further rust issues until my budget allows for a better paint scheme. I love my ZJ (for the most part), even when she breaks and I have to fix her.
