    Project "Great Basin G"

It looks like a fun day at the beach. From my understanding all the awnings, including ARB are built in China. I had to buy a replacement ladder for my RTT and sure enough the ARB parts were a perfect fit. It's apparent they they come from the same supplier. I looked at importing RTT a few month...

I think you are the first one to notice. I bought them for about $20 from Eurotruck.

Cheap Gen 1 Monty: Worth it?

It's about 10 miles away from me. If you want me to go look at it with you I would be happy to help out. I have owned a few in my day. Send me a pm. Spence

anything else I need to buy before doing the spark plugs and wires?

The air looked pretty clear here today. It was a bit cooler today and the next few days don't look to promising. It looks like it is going to drop into the 30's. Were you going to try to change the valve seals while you were changing the plugs?

Manual locking hubs....any difference in MPG?

As in all things mpg related every little bit helps and before you know it you will have a 4-5 mpg increase. The recommendations I can make are change your driving style, run royal purple fluids, add an electric fan, manual hubs, smaller less aggressive tires, free flowing intake and exhaust and...

    Gen3 Montero vs. Gen3 4Runner

I have no issue standing behind the Montero and letting people know what great offroad vehicles they are. That being said, I am not out to convince or mislead people into thinking that they are great rock crawlers because that is just not the case. The Montero is a very sure footed vehicle that...

    Project "Great Basin G"

No problem, I am sure you would be happy with the quality and functionality of the awning. Bobby is a good guy over there at CVT. www.cascadiatents.com

    Project "Great Basin G"

It is my first awning but it appears to be well built. I have had the CVT tent for a while and it has been a fantastic tent. The Awning appears to come from the same supplier. It has aluminum poles and an aluminum frame. The cover is a heavy duty water proof material. The awning is secured by 3...

anything else I need to buy before doing the spark plugs and wires?

It looks like you have it all figured out. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

    Project "Great Basin G"

Here in the Great Basin it is hot and dry about half of the year. To fight the heat I added a 99" awning from CVT. While the awning came with mounting brackets, I purchased awning mounting brackets from Baja Rack because they provide a more secure mounting system and they are compatible with my...

My SAS Mazda B2600 Diesel Expedition project

Did your engine come with a waterline from the engine to the pump?

My SAS Mazda B2600 Diesel Expedition project

Hey Jeff, what did you do for cold starts. Mine does not have a fast idle mechanism nor provisions to mount a throttle cable like the 4D55 had. Sabbir thought it should be controlled by a water line running to the pump but the pump does not have a water line. Do you have any insight?

FJZ80 to LR3, am I asking for trouble?

I would say the LR3 are cheaper for a reason but that is not always true. Sometimes the market is soft on a specific model because of a perception. In the LR3's case the reliability of the Disco I and II has influenced it's resale value. Personally if I were in the market for a vehicle like the...

    Gen3 Montero vs. Gen3 4Runner

I think you hit the nail on the head. Most of JK's in my neighborhood are just as you described but some are riding on Dana 60's, not Dana 44's. It's just hard to compete with a JK on 39's with front and rear lockers, 4:1 tcase, highline fenders and swaybar disconnect. These rigs are all to...

    Gen3 Montero vs. Gen3 4Runner

I love Montero's but I would hesitate to call the Gen II an insane offroad vehicle. It is a decent offroad vehicle that is very solid, but it lacks several key components to take it to the next level. I would not put it in the same class as a Jeep or any other solid front axle vehicle when it...

    Need Rock Sliderz

Rocky Road Outfitters in Utah sells sliders specifically for your Montero as well as other models of Montero's. The price is reasonable at $319-419 depending on the model. http://www.rocky-road.com/montero.html

    Gen3 Montero vs. Gen3 4Runner

The Gen III Montero is kind of an enigma. The off road community and Montero communities have had a hard time embracing them. Just last week I was speaking with a member who owns two FZJ 80's and a 2003 Montero. He wants to part ways with the Land Cruisers because he likes the Montero much...

    Montero vs. Trooper

I stand by my numbers and assure you they are accurate. I am anal when it come to tracking this stuff because I have a small business and I report mileage for taxes. I never once saw a tank below 20mpg. I only speak from first hand experience. If you think your second or third hand experience is...

    Montero vs. Trooper

My first gen 1991 Montero consistently averaged 16mpg with 31" tires. It had the 143hp 3.0 litre V6 and the lockup auto tranny. My 2000 Gen II.5 never got below 20mpg even in city driving. It had the 3.5 litre V6 with the auto tranny 31" tires. I have never heard of someone only getting 13-15...
