    "Skinny" Tires...

Those 17" wheels are 7.5" wide. A 16" wheel will fit on the 4th gen SR5 4Runner, but not on the Sport (bigger front brake) or the Limited with the big brake option. I use 16" wheels for my snow tire set (with 245/75 tires) because they were available cheap on craigslist, and 16" tires tend to...

    "Skinny" Tires...

I have a 2008 4Runner, SR5, V6, with factory 17" wheels. It has 255/75 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires on it, no wheel spacers. Only other pertinent mods are some front fender liner relocation & trimming (no painted surfaces, only the black plastic fender liner), and Bilstein 5100 shocks...

Does someone make an awning with add on enclosure sides?

The "bag awnings" (google it) for pop-up tent trailers typically have velcro sewn along the edges, for the optional screen room attachment. Fairly inexpensive, as these things go.

New FWC layout - what do you think?

Anyone know if FWC will build a larger cabover section, in order to not have the pullout bed? (I know, I could call them, but it's late...) This was one of the reasons I passed on a FWC, as they tend to be a more spartan design, and I wanted more creature comforts. They are well built though...

    Titles for campers?

Just get a bill of sale from the previous owner, if buying from a private seller. I bought my pop-up camper used; prior owner was an Oregon resident. OR does title campers, so I have the signed-over title. I live in Nevada, which does not title, register, license, or otherwise do anything...

    Fleetwood/Coleman Evolution Series Tent Trailers

I had an E1 for a couple of years. The frame is beefy, but the interior is built to the same level of quality as most pop-up campers. Sold it this past summer, mostly because I hated spending the time it took to set up or break down camp with it. Easily 30 minutes at each end. Also, towing...

Husky vs. Weather Tech: Who makes the better floor mat?

I've had Husky in a couple different vehicles; wife's Subaru came with Weathertech. The Weathertech seem a bit thicker and a bit more slippery. I've never had any problem with the Husky liners; they don't seem to wear out.

    pot and pans

I bought the Cuisinart set through Amazon too; it arrived yesterday. Really really nice quality. Considering that a backpacking cookset is $50-60 (and up), this is a pretty nice deal at $90 shipped.

Vinyl floor = more heat than carpet?

Thanks all - sounds like this is normal for a vinyl floor. I'm not looking to get rid of the heat (doesn't really bother me; the A/C works well). I just didn't know if this is normal or if it is a symptom of something going wrong elsewhere.

Vinyl floor = more heat than carpet?

Not really sure where to put this thread... so I'll try here. For those who have owned both: do trucks with vinyl floors have more heat coming up into the cab than those with carpet? I know carpeted cabs have padding underneath the carpet, so there's more insulation for sound and heat there...

    Rugged Off-Road Hitch Rack

These are probably the most burly bike racks on the market: North Shore Racks -- http://northshoreracks.com/ Expensive though. And they won't hold road bike forks. I have had a couple different hitch-mount racks. I prefer the ones that hold the bikes from the wheels, e.g., Thule T2. The...

Wiring Q: camper to truck: simple Q from electrical ignoramus

Finally finished -- everything works! I basically copied the setup in the rv.net link I posted, and used the solenoid that dwh posted a link to, plus a 30A auto-resetting breaker between the solenoid and the camper. I just used 10ga wire for the connections, and ran wire to the 7-pin plug on...

DIY vented battery box - what to use?

I finished this part of my camper project today, so at least the battery box is in, and the batteries installed and connected. I used a copy of an action packer from Walmart, as the internal size was nearly perfect for fitting 2 golf cart batteries, with almost 1 1/3" clearance above the...

DIY vented battery box - what to use?

Cost. 6V golf cart battery is ~$90 each at local Costco, standard lead-acid type battery. A 6V AGM golf cart battery looks like it will be well over $200 each.

DIY vented battery box - what to use?

I think I'll run a vent out the top -- hydrogen is lighter than air, so I'll help it evacuate out the top, through the existing hose and vent to the exterior of the camper.

Wiring Q: camper to truck: simple Q from electrical ignoramus

Thanks Bogo - I'm planning on wiring in the running lights, just haven't gotten to it yet. This weekend will be the wiring project of connecting the camper to the truck via the solenoid dwh linked to, and I'll add wiring for the running lights at that time.

DIY vented battery box - what to use?

Thanks dwh - helpful information. The drain in the bottom of my existing battery box is a small (~ 1/2") hole, bored through the bottom of the camper, somewhat in the middle of the camper. It would "drain" straight onto the rubber bed mat in the truck bed. I'll take some measurements on...
