The Adventures of Jane – ‘15 4R TP

With all of the craziness of a newborn and, well, life in general, we decided to get out and explore for the day last Sunday. We got a really late start (because baby), but we were able to do the historic Bennett Pass in the Mt. Hood National Forest. It was an easy drive, but the views were...

    CreeperSleeper's '85 Xtra-Cab

I got a little bit of an update, but nothing too exciting. Saturday a buddy came over and helped me pull the t-case and install Sumo 4.7 low range gears and FROR twin stick. Unfortunately, I was really greasy so I didn't get many pictures. Hopefully this week I can throw some 90w in it and...

    Nobo 10.6 vs InTech explore

We looked at the E16TH and the floor seemed solid. We ended up with a E19BH since it was better suited for our needs/family.

    Nobo 10.6 vs InTech explore

Check out the Flagstaff E-Pro / Rockwood Geo (same trailer). After months of shopping, we ended up with an E-Pro and love it. The fit and finish is night and day over the NOBO

    CreeperSleeper's '85 Xtra-Cab

I got some work done on the truck!!! I really wanted to figure out a way to keep cargo out of the shocks, carry all of my camping stuff for when I 'm not using the trailer, and get locking storage for my tools outside of the cab. I also needed to mount my hi-lift and secure a cooler. A buddy...

    Need help with offline mapping

I think I gotcha. So the benefit of the Garmin is the mapset fits on the unit, only requiring to download it once, correct? I was under the impression I could do the same thing with other maps, but I guess I never calculated out exactly how much storage I would need. In my mind I was thinking...

    Need help with offline mapping

That makes sense. I guess what I was trying to ask is why would it be better to use the Garmin Montana over the tablet I already have if I still need to download maps?

    Need help with offline mapping

Thanks digitalnomad. I looked at the OSMAnd website and it looks to be more for guidance on the beaten path. Does it work well in remote areas (i.e. logging or forest service roads)? Google Maps and the factory Navi work well for major roads. I am looking for something to take me off the...

    Need help with offline mapping

Gotcha. I think there is a way to, for lack of better terms, put a map on top of another map in other programs. For example, put a historic map over your main map to see old mines. Maybe I am way off base. LOL!

    Need help with offline mapping

Please excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't needing to download maps to a unit I don't own have the same function as downloading maps to a device I already have? Also, I was under the impression that Garmin maps weren't ideal.

The Adventures of Jane – ‘15 4R TP

Wow, I really need to do a better job with this thread! Jane was doing her duties as my wife's daily driver until March 13th. That is when she was upgraded from DD to baby hauler with our son, Canaan, join us finally. The poor kid looks just like me: In the months leading up to Canaan's...

To be honest, I don't even know exactly what I should be asking so I'm going to give you a lot of info first. This is my background: I have never used a stand-alone GPS system other than my Garmin golf watch. The only experience I have with digital mapping is with the factory navigation...
