Mountain State Overland - exploring and protecting appalachia

Good stuff guys. This abnormally warm weather has me tempted to make a 2-3 day run on part of the Kentucky Adventure Trail if it keeps it up into vacation. After I started looking at the route I realized it gets really close to part of the 4 States route.

As a relatively new member I must say this thread has me enthralled. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration.

    Reflective Tarp Under Mattress

It hasn't gotten really cold here yet, but I thought we may just use our backpacking mats in the RTT. We have both foam reflective ones, and some inflatable versions that include insulation. However, I've slept on one of the reflective tarps while backpacking and saw a huge difference. When I'm...

The ExPo Mountain Bike Photo Thread

Yeah I got to ride a 29+ out in Nevade last month and while it wasn't as nimble as I'd like for my local hardwoods I can definitely see the 27.5+ hitting the sweet spot.

The ExPo Mountain Bike Photo Thread

Here's my Raleigh Tokul 27.5 It's loaded down for a bikpacking trip with my Oveja Negra frame bag, seat pack, and the "lunch box" handle bar bag holding my dry bag on the bars. I also have a basic dump pouch to carry my camera on the backside of the bars. Besides being my single track and...

My shakedown run: Solo Bikepacking the Krampus in Sedona, AZ.

Awesome ride report. My filter was a big weight and size issue for my bikepacking so I swapped to a Sawyer Mini and Platypus bladder set up as a gravity filter. It's only been on one trip, but it served me and two buddies well on that ride.

27.5+ roll call Please tell me more + or -

To jump in as for the future of tire preferences... after growing up riding regular old 26ers, trying a 29er, then getting a 27.5 that I really like, and then trying out a 29er Plus...I can say that I, as a rider that likes to keep one road-esque bike and one mountain bike, am really hunting a...

    Picked up a Salsa Mukluk

First off, great bike. I'm really fighting the urge to get a new mountain bike. As for bags I second the vote for Oveja Negra. I have their seat pack, frame bag, and "lunch" box and I've been impressed with all of it. Their prices are competitive and after a couple of seasons of use all of the...

in need of a new camp axe or hatchet

I've had two of the Husqvarna carpenter's axes, and I've only had two because a buddy really liked the first one so I gave it to him. One had slightly better grain than the other, but all in all a great axe for the money. If memory serves they were actually made by Gransfors Bruks or Wetterlings...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

I got my skottle right after Expo East and took it on a recent trip to Hunting Island. We made shrimp tacos, steak stir fry, and shrimp stir fry. We also made breakfast, but no photo evidence of that. I was really impressed with how little fuel it used. We kept the recipes simple and only used...
