Replacing the headlight bulbs, connector pulls off, then you are supposed to pull the rubber part out, remove the spring replace bulb and do the reverse. I am kind of worried about yanking too hard on the rubber gasket like thing? Maybe it's just not something you should be doing in 33 degree weather and I need to get it warmed up a bit?

It'll pull right off. It's probably just stiff due to the cold weather you're talking about.
The spring/clip that's holding the bulb in is pivoted just so you know. Just a heads up so you don't yank it out.
