Locked and Long Travel Tacoma Build

This is my 2006 Tacoma. Truck is a 4.0L, TRD Sport, 4x4. Highlights include ARB air lockers front and rear, All Pro and Defined Engineering long travel suspension, 50"-20"-6" LED light bars, rear mounted Warn winch, 2 meter-CB-GPS-iPad comms and navigation, and roof top tent. Nice truck! Looks like a lot of fun to drive. Did you see any upgrade in braking performance with he rotors and pads? It's something that seems to get overlooked a lot on here. I know when my tacoma is loaded down it feels like I'm trying to stop a tank.

It's been so long since the truck was stock I couldn't tell you; but I will say that I have ample braking power. Having the ability to turn the ABS off when on slick ground is also a huge help in keeping the truck under control, especially on steep descents.

The upper skid is aluminum, 3/16". Cut with a jig saw, mounts to six tabs welded on the tube bumper. The lower skid is an All Pro IFS skid that I took a plasma cutter to and put in a press brake to make the front angle mate up to the lower tube of my tube bumper. Secures to the frame with the original four mounting points, plus two tabs welded to the tube bumper.

I like the way this truck is built, good balance between off road capability while still being a great camping rig.

Love this build. I just bought an 06 access cab and would like to do something similar.

If you don't mind, could you help me sell the wife on this by ballparking how much do you have into the mods so far?

I don't need an itemized list, as just I need to know if the price of this dream is :wings: or :Wow1: before I spend too much time/$ going down the rabbit hole!

Ball park $10,000-12,000, and that's doing all of the fab work myself. You could easily hit $15,000 to $20,000 if you're paying for install and fabrication. Most of the money was spent on the long travel suspension and ARB lockers.

Nice rig. Do you have any close ups of the tire carrier? Is it mounted in a way that you can swap with a regular tailgate when not using the tire gate?

The tire gate is built so that the spare can stand up (like it is in the pictures) or the portion that the actual wheel is mounted to, within the tiregate, can rotate and lay flat in the bed of the truck. I do that when I need to haul a sheet of plywood or I want to go fast and lower my center of gravity.
