My 89 build

I picked this up in June. I had a 1990 that I sold a couple of years ago and regretted it and finally left a note on this really nice one down my street. The guy called me back a couple weeks later and viola, it is mine.

It is in pretty good shape, with a new (7,000 miles) engine.

Here is how it was when I got it (I added the rack and kayak holder):

Saturday I put on some 33x10.5s and OME. It gave me about a 1.5" lift, and the tires are perfect. I used to have 33x12.5s on my old Montero, and it just looked too cartoonish. The 10.5s are aggressive, but understated:

Of course we had to go out and play...

nice rig mate...have a similar one myself with the same color. Do post more pics when you take it out.

Happy trails.

Nice.

Personally, I like cartoons and enjoy my 12.5's:smiley_drive:but to each their own.

BTW, have you considered swapping in a 90/91 lockup torque converter in place of the non-lockup unit in the 89? That's what I'm going to eventually do with my 89 v6 2 door. Should get a couple more mpg on the highway.:sombrero:

I wasn't dissing...remember my 90 had 12.5"s. I just think with the narrow body, the 10.5"s look more refined (pauses to take a sip of brandy :sombrero:).

I will have to do more research on the torque converter. This is the first I have heard of it.
