    Emmet, my '03 Monty Sport

Working on it! If I can get some tomorrow, I will...I will say that I've been driving him a bit and I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

Thanks jhill! I didn't even think about checking the tag for the rear end. I'll do that when I wash the truck for the first time.

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/135330-Emmet-my-03-Monty-Sport?p=1718328#post1718328 Here are the fruits of my labor! So glad to finally have a rig and not have to search anymore.

    Emmet, my '03 Monty Sport

Well, the search is over...I finally have my own rig! After being let down by the Montero and two Grand Cherokees I looked at yesterday, I went to bed feeling defeated but looking forward to the future. This morning, I woke up with a good feeling, thinking that today might just be the day I...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Strikes one and two for the Montero and the ZJ. The Montero's trans was on its last legs (wouldn't go into 3rd gear without significant prodding), and the engine sounded like its bearings were pretty toast. I liked the driving position though, and the interior is HUUUUGE. Big selling points...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

As much as I want to have an ExPo rig that runs 35s and has full armor and all the gear anyone would ever need, the truth is that I don't really want (or need) all that stuff right away, which I'm sure most of you would agree with. I think the goal for me for the foreseeable future is to get a...

    My modified ZJ thread.

Wow...I didn't expect the numbers to be quite that low. Do you like the V8 or do you wish you'd gone with the I-6? Sorry to hijack your thread, I've just never gotten answers that specific before.

    My modified ZJ thread.

Subscribed! I've been looking at ZJs for a while now and your build is similar to what I'd want to do if I ended up with one. I'm actually in talks with the owner of a ZJ that's almost identical to yours! :) What kind of mileage were you getting with the NP249 installed, and how much of an...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

4x4junkie, that's actually a really interesting observation...I'll have to keep an eye out for that when I'm looking at trucks. There are a few Grand Cherokees that I'm looking at so I'll keep that in the back of my mind. I mean, I'd really like to get up into the high teens, mileage-wise, but...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Funny that you say this...the Jeep guys would have me believe that ZJs get great mileage and most other rigs don't! I guess that shows the effects of brand bias...:D Then again, I might become one of them depending on how this search turns out!

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Thanks for the info, 4x4junkie! That was a lot of good info, some of it which I hadn't thought of before. I think the Bronco II's actually look cool with a lift and bigger tires, but like a lot of cool things, they seem a bit hard to come by, at least in decent shape. That being said, I...

    Death Valley Weekend - Nov 8-10 - 2013

Totally resurrecting this thread from this dead, but that was a great read, and some awesome photos to go along with it! Looks like the Montero performed really well...every time I read about how capable a near-stock Montero is, I'm more and more sold on them.

Japanese SUV goodness: 2001 Isuzu Trooper

I shouldn't have tortured myself by going at looking at the price...oh well. It's way too nice for me anyway! Thanks for pointing that out.

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Damn, that is a loooow first gear, you weren't kidding. I think the "OJ" Broncos had a 5-speed manual, but the 5th gear was an overdrive. I think if I were to seriously consider a bronco, I'd probably look at the ones toward the end of the production run since those would have the lowest miles...

Japanese SUV goodness: 2001 Isuzu Trooper

Subscribed! Looking forward to seeing the progress you make on this rig! I'm looking at Troopers as an entry-level 4WD (BigSwede has commented on my other thread a bunch) and your build has been good inspiration for what I'd want to do to mine. One question: if yours is an '01, does that mean...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Thanks again for all the help guys! I think this is one of those cases where it's better to have more information than less, and I want to thank you for actually helping me out and giving me a lot to consider. AFB, you make a really good point about the Broncos. I've been searching for them on...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Thanks again! If I end up with a trooper I'm coming to you for advice for sure. If I'm converting an early 2nd Gen to the wide-track, what do I do to the rear end? Wheel spacers or a complete rear axle out of a 95-on?

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

You bring up some good points! What I'm looking to do with it is the first 3 things you said: desert trails, national parks, fire roads, and hopefully on-road road trips at some point. I don't need a rock buggy or anything that extreme...that requires more time and money than I want to spend...

HELP ME DECIDE!!! Newbie needs advice

Thanks for the info! I've heard that the 3.2 is the motor to go for; are there any reliability issues in choosing the DOHC over the single-cam motor? Also, I've heard mixed opinions on OBD II, with some saying it's a massive pain and others saying it's really not all bad. What are your thoughts?

Joinin' the Montero Club with a Gen 2.5

Just read your entire thread...SUBSCRIBED!!! That Alaska trip was amazing and inspiring; now I've got the itch to go! Also, your Monty is awesome and I think you may have just sold me on Monteros. I had no idea how capable they are, talk about an underrated and under-appreciated rig! Definitely...
