Keiko the Tacoma - An Evolution of Needs

I actually saw a guy this weekend at Home Depot that had a M1101 Trailer like you picked up down here in Denver. Pretty sweet looking, and very wide.

I am looking to get a set of these. Any words of advice? Shops in Denver? Extra parts any one has laying around willing to sell?

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

**UPDATE** I am going to pick up the Wildernest Tent tonight. It looks as though I do not need springs after all. The guy who originally built it, didn't use the springs. I will have pics up in the next couple of days. This will really be one of the most unique slide in camper wildernest's around.

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

I found a guy in Oregon who has a trashed Wildernest, but he hasn't responded yet. Hoping I can just get the springs out of there, and then my hybrid slide in camper wildernest will be complete.

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

**UPDATE*** The Wildernest Tent I went and looked at will fit. The only pieces missing now, are the torsion springs that basically allow the Wildernest to pen and close properly. I have been searching the web, and apparently back in 2008, a guy with the user name of "DaveInDenver" had a company...

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

Good news! I picked up the support poles for the interior. Going to look at the Wildernest Tent tonight(tent only) to see if it will fit. If it does, this will be better than I thought originally.

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

So I bought it. Began tearing it apart last night. Now the fun part of cleaning. Will start on the roof, and work my way to find and fix any leaks. I actually found a Wildernest Tent in Boulder. I have all of the components for it that came with the camper. The guy who originally built this...

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

I saw that the other day. I will for sure keep my eye on it since the current owner of the slide in cut out the Wildernest tent that was in there(due to a lot of holes in the material he said). The inside of the slide in, was built around the wildernest. Has the poles, cables, everything. The...

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

I am tired of crawling in and out of the camper shell with platform in my truck. I don't really have space, and feel like the outside of my truck looks like a "yard sale" sometimes with gear strewn everywhere. The girlfriend and dog and me take up the entire back of the truck. The platform even...

6 foot, custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma

The length is right at 72 inches, and will fit inside my bed, and I can even close the tailgate (supposedly). I measured the other day and think it will be fine. I have decided that if it doesn't drop the back of the truck too badly, I am going to purchase it. If I am in over my head with this...

6 foot, custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma

So it has the jacks for all 4 corners, that you can raise and lower out of the bed, that come with the camper. I really don't want it to live on there, but I think it would have too for the first few weeks, maybe month until I get it all kitted out. Realistically, my biggest concern is the...

6 foot, custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma

Like how much work? What detail? Please help me out as I don't want to make a HUGE mistake here. After measuring, I do have room to keep it on the truck, and pull into our carport to work on it. My daily commute is only 9 miles one way to work, no highways. I was thinking some work would go...

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

I already have a topper on my truck, with platform in there. The price on the slide in camper is only $300. I just can't make up my mind. Decision decisions.

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

The current owner cut out the tent portion (said there were holes in the fabric, and it was in bad shape), and then foam sealed the capper on there. Looks like ****. Sleeping room would be very small. Not a lot of room for storage, but if the rack is on there, I have a rocket box, and also a...

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

I am just concerned about the cold. One guy said it would be an ice box. I am thinking some rigid insulation cut to fit in the open places in the framing, and then maybe some thin paneling over that? Awning, solar planel, 10lb propane tank mounted on outside? So many ideas. Just not sure if it...

6 foot custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma........Money pit? Should I buy?

Well, I found this on CL the other day, and am first in line. All aluminum, 400lbs, locking door, slide screened windows, etc. NEEDS MAJOR LOVE. Let's get the first hurdle out of the way. No where to store it. I do have a car port, but have a raft trailer in there. WE RENT! Do not own a home...

6 foot, custom aluminum slide in camper for Tacoma

The wildernest topper is sealed on there with sprayfoam. There is no tent on the inside. I figured it would be better to have 1 uniform piece of sheet metal all the way across the top.
