Do you feel the need to have a weapon when camping

The OP asked "do you feel the need..." There first word "feel" isn't debatable but the second word "need" certain is. For me personally, I feel much better and safer when I have a gun with me while camping. However, do you really need one ? I have been camping in the eastern Sierras in...

I Screwed Up, Bought a Tacoma, Now Want 4 Runner

I have had 5 pickups in my life and 3 SUV's. I like them both. However, I told myself for my next purchase I would definitely be getting an SUV and not a pickup. Well, stupid me did a total impulse buy and bought a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 to replace my older Tacoma. I've had my Tacoma for 4 months...

    Nikon Coolpix S9300

I have the Nikon S9500 which is the newer version of this camera. The experience of this poster is exactly what has happened to me many times. The "auto" setting is right next to the soft focus setting on the dial and its very easy to accidently move the dial. Its also possible the OP has...

San Diego county CCW 9th Circuit Decision

Richard - I see you are in Torrance. Did you know your city spent $250,000 fighting a lawsuit over CCW's. They won the lawsuit but that was prior to the Peruta decision. So basically they wasted the tax payers money defending an unconstitutional policy.

Which Caliber for a primary Hunting Rifle?

There is almost no difference between a 308 and 30-06 for shooting elk. I have owned only 1 bolt action "deer" rifle in my life and its a 30-06. I have shot about 15 whitetails, 2 elk and 2 mule deer. They all died from a single shot. All were with a 165 grain bullet. Don't listen to...

    The Best Camera For Overlanding

Since you are going to be in your car and don't have to worry about carrying/hiking with weight, I think a DSLR is mandatory. I also ALWAYS have a GoPro mounted on my truck. My fav camera is my old Nikon D7000 because it takes great pictures and awesome video. I am no fan of camera phones.

    but what about an FJ...

I owned a 2008 Tacoma and a 2008 FJ. I liked both. As far as the FJ, yes it has a small gas tank and range is limited. I found the visibility to be "ok". Not great but not as bad as some people claim. I think the FJ is okay for no more than 2 people. If you have a family or kids, then NO...

Thank you, I love the Best Top so far. I like that it only weighs about 15lbs which is nice for my 4cyl.

    My New Project - 2013 Tacoma 4cyl

I agree. I think new tires is about all I am going to do. I am much more about the adventure than the hardware. I am trying to find out if I have a locking rear on this truck though.

    33x10.50x15 or 31x10.50x15 ?

I ran 33x12.50 's on my stock 87 toyota pickup 4cy for about 100,000 miles. Yes you will lose a little power. Those skinnier tires in 10.5 would probably mitigate some of the power loss while still giving you the clearance though. dont expect your truck to excelerate like a sports car.

am I crazy to get 4cyl Taco?

My 1987 Toyota pickup had the 22R motor with a 5sp and stock gears. I drove that truck EVERYWHERE. I did more off roading than 99% of people. The motor is strong enough and reliable to go where you want to go. I got 30 mpg on the freeway too. I bought the truck with 50,000 miles and sold...

Jerry Cans vs. Replacement/Aux Fuel Tanks - Pros/Cons

My 2008 Fj Cruiser has a small gas tank so I looked into an aux fuel tank. However,it was expensive and according to reviews I read, they seem to have problems tripping codes. Instead, I modified my OEM roof rack to hold 3 (5) gallon plastic jugs. It works perfectly and only cost about $95...

Any input on 255/85s and stock gears?

For what its worth.....I had a 1987 toyota pickup with a 5sp and 22R engine (4cyl). I had stock gears and 33 x 12.50 mud terrains. I put almost 110,000 miles on it with those tires. I believe the engine made about 105-115 hp. I got almost 32 mpg on the highway and took that truck off...
