do you have any photos or information on how the camper attaches to the flatbed? in the pricing breakdown it mentions "XP quick disconnect for camper".

i've used a 1/8" thick x 1 1/2" frp angle on the top edge of the bottom portion of the shell to stiffen the wall just a bit and also add a clean trim. it's hard to find 1/8" in frp, most is thicker and stiffer. i tested a piece of 3/16" and it was considerable stiffer than the 1/8" that i ended...

Lightweight Homebuilt Camper for my Tacoma

crazy and good. these things are real "projects", they don't progress on their own! i've been at a stage of little visible progress, sanding, filling and sanding all the corner joints. i'm hoping(and building) this thing lasts forever, but yeah, also realizing changes and improvements as i go. i...

came across a good price on what looks to be a very good solar panel and ordered it today. it will be powering a nova kool 12v fridge, 1 or 2 fantastic fans, a few led's and occasionally an inverter. inverter will be primarily to run a coffee grinder every other day and charge cordless tool...

jrfromafar, (does the "jr" refer to a certain right point up north?) i followed the "huf adventure camper build". pretty cool. i think that one turned out nice and light and has been in action for awhile now. mine will have canvas popup, not hard side. it's time for me to start thinking about...

never thought of ripping down box tube. i could have done that to get 1" channel. i'm pleasantly surprised at how easy the fiberglass angles work with standard woodworking tools(carbide blades)....cuts and sands easily.

sandblast? i never thought of that. definitely worth looking into, sure could save alot of time and 40 grit. i don't have any experience with sandblasting. a call to nida-core technical would probably get you an answer, tech there has been very helpful.

yep, that has required alot of time and effort. i studied the supercamper build thoroughly and was still surprised at how hard the surface is to prepare. my method was to thoroughly sand all the panels flat on the sawbucks before laminating them in place. i takes alot of elbow grease and i would...

DanoT, panels for the main shell are all 1". the roof is 1 1/4" for a little extra solar insulation, and some of the interior fixtures are 5/8". r value is listed as 3.3/inch. some other builds i've seen have used thicker material, but my footprint is small and interior components such as the...

yep, a little more initial outlay of $ but when you get it you're ready to go. nida-core presents some issues dealing with edge trim and attachment points but it's quite doable. i looked into a lot of composite panels but few were interested in selling to me, and the few that said they would...

billboards hauler: homebuilt fiberlgass composite popup for flatbed tundra

yep, i found that out as soon as i made the cut. kinda figured it would be flimsy with just 2" left above the door and based on how the frame flexed on my old shadow cruiser when the wind blew the door shut. i took a 1 1/2" piece of nidacore and lammed it above the door at a right angle to the...

i've been lurking on the expedition portal for a few years gleaning info for my own build am now well underway. what a process getting started. planning, making decisions, sourcing materials, spending more $, and finally diving in and making that first cut. implementation is the easy part...

Lightweight Homebuilt Camper for my Tacoma

not sure if this helps but on my 20 yr old shadow cruiser canvas is attached flat to the top of the inside roof by way of a flat aluminum strip. lower wall is attached to the outside on the vertical surface but does use a short leg angle across the top, folding the canvas in about 1/4". 1st...

Lightweight Homebuilt Camper for my Tacoma

i second what outbackamper said. been following most of the smaller builds for the last couple of years and always find bits of info and tips that i store away for later. i've already sourced a few components that i've seen on yours, i.e. the scanstrut pass thru cable routing and shore power...

POD: Homebuilt foam core fiberglass skin pop-up camper build thread

yeah, i guess i didn't really mean no load, i meant no added uneven load on the roof such as racks, solar panels and fans. i did not notice the box on top. still, impressed with the action. the deal on those switches was too good to pass up...ordered. i will definitely be adding a cutoff...
