Waterproofing the Rubbermaid Action Packer?

I got the Dewalt boxes recently (L and XL)...haven't tried them in the field yet but it seems like a much better bet than trying to weatherproof an action packer. It is stronger and much more critter proof I would think. This is important since I sleep in the Trooper and everything I can put outside is a bonus, so I hope to use one of these for food. It does have a rubber seal, not sure it is in the league of a pelican box for weathertightness but it looks pretty good nonetheless. Great lifting handles. Doesn't have those slanted sides like the APs so it stacks better and is perhaps a bit more space efficient, although you do lose some volume to stiffening ribs and room for handles etc. Very sturdy latches.

The black one on bottom is the same thing but without the o-ring. I use it on my deployments and they can take a beating and have a bunch of weight loaded into them and onto them.

I gave up on Action Packers. In the high altitude sun in Colorado they do not keep their shape. Then it is very hard to fit the lid. And they don't stack.

One solution I found is a tub and lid that I found at Home Depot and Lowes. They were about $18 dollars but this fall Home Depot was selling them for about $10.
I have two of them, side by side, in the back of my '99 Cherokee and can still have the rear seat back in the up position. They are 27 gallon size and hold a lot of items.
They don't have a latch but with the slots you could use zip ties or velcro straps to hold the lid. They can be stacked with the design of the top.

Look at Home Depot.com model 207585 and 2027-06. Read the reviews. One person said they leaked but I have had one outside a couple of months and inside the box is dry. I have found that there are two slightly different models so check that they match and stack properly. They have worked good for me. I wonder if they might make a smaller model in the same style?
