Like I said, it's a little tricky to heat in the can, but most of the time there isn't a problem. sometimes you can remove a fork full of chilli from the can first and throw it in the chip bag. Then heat the can. The hot Chilli will heat up the fork full when you put it in the bag.

I did a bunch of research on the use of water cans as fuel cans. The Water cans are slightly thinner walled and like has been mentioned are missing the sealing surface and the vent tube. It is probably doable with some PE plastic welding , but may not be worth it.
